How to add welcome message to block in Drupal 7?

Step 1: Use views module. Add new view.
Step 2: Choose Users from the Show drop-down menu and tick on Create a block.
Step 3: Configure contextual filter by choosing Provide default value with type User ID from logged in user.
Step 4: Then configure the other fields as per your needs to include whatever text or user profile fields you wish.
Step 5: Then save the block and add it to a region.
